This post started out as me putting up one of Krit's most recent videos but I felt that I should focus on the beat more. I've heard countless artists on this beat but I was never a big Lil Kim fan so I had no idea where it came from. So I backtracked and that took me to "Ultimate Flow" on "We Got It for Cheap Vol. 2" which took me to the wikipedia page for the mix tape where I found out where the track originated. This might be one my favorite beats of all time just because it's so laid back but dope at the same time. The track was produced by Fabian Hamilton and sampled "Bumpy's Lament" by Isaac Hayes. I tried to find some recent tracks from dude but it seems like he fell off the face of the earth. Here's the sample, the original track and a few remakes. Sidenote: Little things like this make me appreciate Hip Hop that much more.

I peeped this vid over at the Playcloths blog. Right now I'm debating about getting an iphone or a droid when my contracts up. I'm leaning towards the driod because they have flash support while the iphone doesn't. I currently have a blackberry storm as well but it sucks lol. If this is a sign of things to come from RIM's new Blackberry products I might have to stick around. The Playbook pretty much shits on the iPad in this demonstration. They will probably only take an L in the name department since most Apple heads are sold on the fact that it's an Apple product. Hopefully the apps are sick too. I was loafing at home one day and an Entourage marathon was running on HBO Comedy. I've been watching this show ever since. I'm not sure if it's because I see myself living that life one day or if it's just because it's a dope ass show, it could be a combination of both. Either way this show is dope. The worst part about it is that it airs in the summer and you have to wait a full year for the next season. I've been looking around to find out when the new season starts and just found out that it's going to be the last season and they're making a movie to end the series. Shit's a heart breaker. A while back a few cats I follow on twitter put me on to this crew Odd Future out of L.A. Originality is lacking in the rap world nowadays and these dudes are bringing it back. The groups members include Tyler, the Creator, Jasper Dolphin, Domo Genesis, Matt Martians, Left Brain, Mike G, Hodgy Beats, Taco, Syd and Earl Sweatshirt. Yeah man, there's strength in numbers. The dopest part about Odd Future is that THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK. All of these cats are under 20 and rapping about shit most parents would flip out about if they heard their kids saying it which includes verything from rape to murder . I've only heard 2 projects from the crew, Tyler's "Bastard" and Mellowhype's (Hodgy Beats and Left Brain) "Blackenedwhite" but both tapes are insane. Paul Holdengraber is the director of public programs at the NYPL and for those that don't know who Cornel West is, he's one of the most prolific voices in the black community today. J. Cole's new tape is bananas! Seems like everybody had a few problems finding it last night and dude's site actually crashed because of the traffic lol. A few of the tracks are leaks but dope none the less. The tape is sure to build a buzz for his album since "Who Dat" didn't get the job done and I'm hoping it gets dropped from the final tracklisting.  "Blow up", "Into the morning" ,"Premeditated murder" and "Back to the topic" are a few of the tracks that stood out and Cole had a hand in producing most of the beats. I was starting to see people say Cole was getting treated like Hov's other artist. I don't think they see he wants them to get shit done without waiting on a Jay-Z feature. This tape is definitely gonna get J. Cole's name buzzing though, maybe that untitled album will get a release date now. Check the link for the download.

Bubble Music VS Looking for Trouble

Sound familiar? That's the track Kanye sampled for his latest Good Friday track, "Looking for Trouble". Prior to that I heard the sample used on Cam's "Purple Haze" album on the track "Bubble Music". I think it's dope to hear a sample used on multiple tracks but personally I think the sample was used way better on "Bubble Music". I also the the track is way better than "Looking for Trouble". Outside of J. Cole's verse the track was a whole was a little underwhelming to me. That Pusha verse seemed like it was a throw away, Cyhi's verse was all over the place, and Sean's verse was IITE lol. The track sounded poorly mastered to me as well but hey. I'm posting both vids so you guys can compare em. Sidenote: I really dig finding out where samples come from. I might start posting shit like this on the regular.

Dude can spit to the point that you say "HUH?!" when someone compares him to most of the new rappers on the scene. Cam knew what he was doing picking up Vado. He's setting trends and spitting on every track like its last. He links with Young Dro on the remix to the cut "Polo" off of his "Slime Flu" Mixtape. Check it out if you haven't yet. Some inspiration

For the record, my creative process is pretty fucking dope lol. Last semester in my Public Speaking class this girl mentioned this artist Salvatore Dali. Prior to that I heard the name on the Clipse track "Momma I'm So Sorry" but I paid it no mind. I finally decided to look up the artist and came across some of his paintings. There's a Dali musuem in St. Pete that I might have to make a trip to because I definitely have a new found appreciation for art. I've heard that Dali was on some other shit and it shows in his work. There's a Dali museum in St. Pete that I'm thinking about going to as well. When I hit a creative block the pic to the right helped me come up with this dope ass design. It still needs a few edits but I think I might post it when it's complete. I found some more inspiration in the track "My America" by Rugz. You're slipping if you haven't checked out his music yet. I downloaded this tape a while ago but recently the tracks have been popping when I've had my blackberry on shuffle so I decided to do a post. If you've been following COTN, you should know who Prophit is. Nowadays he's going by Cody B. Ware and just dropped "The Blue Demon" which I'll be checking out ASAP. The first thing about the tape that caught my attention was the title. It's long as hell but dope as fuck too lol. I could relate to it because I've always felt like people shunned dreamers but their ideas make the world go round. If you're not dreaming you should really reconsider what you're life's about. The first track "King Without His Crown" reminded me of a vintage Premo produced track with its scratches and infectious beat. This track kept me glued me into the rest of the tape with the statement "I'll stay unsigned hype making classics depsite no funding". That line let me know this was about the love for the music, not the fame. The beats on the tape are all original and makes it seem like more of an album than a mixtape.When you have access to other artists beats due to the internet, it's dope to see an up and coming rapper stepping outside of the box. Dude's flow is SERIOUS and it isn't surprising that he draws his inspiration from Pun who was known to slaughter mics while he was alive. Some standout tracks include "Baroness", "Make Love" and "Steady Flowin". It's cool to see people with talent bringing the game back to where it needs to be. This was the album that put me on to the Clipse. Grindin dropped when I was in the 7th grade and had everybody in the lunchroom wildin out to that infectious beat. I was sold on that single alone. This was around the same time comp's were coming equipped with cd burners and this kid in my class was selling Lord Willin' and Joe Budden's first LP. I copped both. Joey's first album is pretty dope too. Y'all should check it out if you haven't already. The Clipse are HIGHLY slept on. Pusha's flow is demonic and Malice's lyrics are on par with your favorite mcs. The two have coke metaphors for years as well lol. The features on this album were fucking epic too. Take out the unnecessary Grindin Remixes and Ma, I Don't Love Her and you can bump the album from front to back. Sidenote: I'm not you is probably the dopest track on the album, Styles, Jada and Roscoe come through and crush it too. I wanted to post Cot Damn too but the video edit of that track doesn't do it any justice. Checkout the album.

I saw this vid over at Dear Whoever. It seems like cats are actually Freestyling again lol. Big Sean, Cory Gunz, and Mickey Factz go in over Just Blaze's classic The Roc (Just Fire) beat. All 3 of these guys spit dope verses. Gunz rips it as usual and Mickey Factz shocked me. Big Sean is starting to gain my respect as an MC after seeing him in that G.O.O.D. music cypher at the BET Awards and I realized dude can actually spit when he wants to. The cover art for Curren$y's  Pilot Talk 2 was released today and it's dope as hell. Pilot Talk's cover was green, the sequel's is purple. If you know Spitta and your trees you know that it means this album is going to be more potent than it's prequel. Bun B said via twitter that he was supposed to be featured on the album but he couldn't get his verse to Curren$y on time. I'm sure that collabo will find its way to our ears either way. NYC's own Cam'ron is known for his colorful (no homo? lol ) wordplay and boastful raps. Dude's in my personal top 5 but he's probably known outside of Hip Hop for his infamous nation wide interviews more than anything. Back in 2003 Cam and Dame Dash went on The O' Reilly factor to talk about how rap was effecting the younger generation and ended up spawning the infamous "You Mad!" catchphrase. I think O' Reilly is an ass so it was dope to see this go down lol. You can see him and the school's principal getting agitated as Cam continues to violate. I was loafing on twitter as usual and Interscope artist Yelawolf posted a link to a video for Big Krit's "Somedayz". The song and video are both dope as Krit goes in on Soul of Mischief's "93 til infinity". I've been a Krit fan since I heard him on the track "Glass House" off of Wiz's "Kush and Orange Juice" mixtape. At first Krit seemed like Pimp C reincarnated and I was anxious to hear what the Mississippi native had to bring to the table. Then "K.R.I.T. wuz here" dropped.
The album was definitely one of the better releases of the year and it showed that Krit was definitely more than the second coming of Pimp C. His Mississippi drawl mixed with lyrical content and dope beats, that he makes, provides music that you have no choice but to nod your head to. Def Jam must have heard the same thing I heard in dude because he inked a deal with the label and is currently listed on the Smokers' Club Tour with Curren$y and Smoke DZA. The Factz on Gunz

Two members from XXL's Freshman class of 09' are plotting on dropping a mixtape together. Mickey Factz announced in an interview with Allhiphop.com that he's working on a mixtape with fellow bronx native Cory Gunz. The two Bronx residents seem like they want to shake the game up a bit. While I've never been a big fan of Mickey Facts, I've been listening to Cory Gunz since his "Apprentice" series dropped. He KILLED Wayne on "A Milli" and if he would have made it on the album version I'm positive he would have been in a way different position then he is now. Gunz' flow is insane! These two are the only freshman from the 09' class that haven't really put any work in since the cover debuted, so I'm anxious to see what they cook up. The tape is definitely a step up from his first release "Bewler's Day Off" where the track "Super Bad", one of the standout tracks on Ski's 24 Hour Karate School, was originally featured. Some new music from Europe's own S.A.S. If you're a Diplomats fan you should know who these cats are. They used to be down with The Roc and Juelz is still "influenced" by em lol. Mega and Mayhem used their "Connect" and got Vado one of NY's dopest new spitters on the track. The track is off of their upcoming project "Galaxy Fly", dropping November 1st. New listeners might be thrown off by the accents but these dudes have bars and the beat knocks. Checkout "The Connect" via OnSmash and their version of Kanye's "Monster". Link after the vid.
